Actress and climate change activist Jane Fonda received veil in President Donald Trump at the 31st Annual Screen Actors Association (SAG) Awards ceremony Sunday night and convene Hollywood to support the new administration.
While accepting the SAG Life Achievement Award, Fonda encourages her actors to have empathy for those who don’t understand in the current political climate.
“What are we [actors] “Creation is empathy. Our work is to understand another person so deeply that we can touch their souls,” Fonda said.
She describes how actors must connect with their characters, even the incredible characters of “bullying” and “misophilist”.

“Think about Sebastian Stan in ‘Apprentice’.” “There is no doubt that empathy is not weak or awake.
Fonda urged her actors to have empathy for the new administration’s actions “really hurt” even if these people “have different political persuasions.”
“We need to call on our empathy, not judgment, but listen from our hearts and welcome them into our tents. Because we will need a large tent to resist something successful,” she said.
The 87-year-old actress compared the current moment to other eras in recent history when Hollywood and Washington fought back.

“I made my first film in 1958. That was at the end of McCarthyism, when so many careers were destroyed,” she said. “Today, remember the help of Hollywood boycott.”
The liberal actress assembles her peers to “be brave” because now is their “moment.”
“Any one of you ever saw one of a great social movements, such as apartheid, our civil rights movement or stone walls – ask yourself, are you brave enough to walk the bridge?” she asked.
“We don’t have to wonder anymore because we’re in a documentary moment.” “That’s it, it’s not rehearsal!”

“We must not joke about what is going on. It’s a big time, guys,” she said. “So let’s be brave.”

Fonda ended her speech by calling on Hollywood to stay in the “community”, “help the disadvantaged” and foster a “human vision for the future.”
