Is the competition between Odyssey and lab golf brewing?

Zero torque putters have been popular in the past few years during PGA Tour and entertainment competitions, but it seems that the craze is just beginning.
Earlier this week, photos of Odyssey Golf’s new Square2Square Max Putters surfaced at the Valspar Championship, which caused a lot of chats about whether Odyssey is going to be doing with lab golf and similarities with lab DF3 Putter.
In this week’s fully equipped episode of Golf, former Callaway employee Johnny Wunder recalls co-hosts Wadeh Maroun and Kris McCormack, who saw the prototype of the Square2Square Max, but was never sure it would actually see the white light.
In fact, he initially thought the photos of the putter were fake.
“And I found out that it was a real thing, like I understand how it happened and why it happened? Of course, yes,” Wunder said. “knowing [Callaway CEO] chip [Brewer]who is not afraid to do something winger, for example, if he thinks something will be sold and he thinks the Odyssey can do better, then he will put it there. ”
Since Lab went public in 2018, several other brands (especially last year) have introduced new putters and some sort of spin on Lab’s “Lie Angle Balance” technology, which has been called zero torque. Odyssey launched its first Square2Square zero torque putter last fall.
Odyssey Ai-One Square to Square Barridd Custom Putter
$299.99
Odyssey’s new series of AI-One Square 2 Square putters have a modern center axis design that balances them so they want to keep a square in the golfer’s stroke. These putters are perfect for golfers when putting the rods want to minimize their face rotation. AI-One uses an insert designed by AI, and we create a profile on the insertion of aluminum proponents, which we collectively cashed onto a striking surface of white hot amino alkyl to promote consistent ball speed with a classic white heat that is a love for tourists and amateurs. Modern Center Axis Design This design centers on the axis on the CG plane of the push rod. This causes the push rod to be opposite to the toe in the position of reverse torque, opposite to the traditional push rod with toe suspension. This design promotes square faces throughout the stroke. The built-in forward forward press 3.3° forward shaft tilts the hand presets the forward pressure position, eliminating the opening of the face that usually occurs when the golfer presses on its own. Unique Navy Blue PVD Finish This range features beautiful Navy Blue PVD finishes that really set it apart and have a premium look, and of course, the Jail Bird model comes with our classic Versa Alignment.

Ultimately, if Odyssey eventually introduces the new Square2Square Max to the retail market (it seems to be ready), then this is positive for Odyssey and Lab
“If I were Sam Hahn in the lab, I probably wouldn’t have postponed it all that much,” Wood said. “From a flattering point of view, I’d look at it – you know, that’s great. It’s nice to know that you can be sure we’ve made good putts too, and we’re going to continue to make only putts. Like, I don’t think they, I don’t think that would chew the lab’s business.”
Wunder believes that the lab has established such a brand identity, just like other putter brands – lab users will continue to buy lab putters, Will Odyssey, Scotty Cameron, Bettinardi and others.
Mano even said this should be a huge milestone for the laboratory

“They were a little bit endangered before the lab became a lab, and I heard a few people turned around and said until people started imitating it, and that wasn’t the same thing,” Maroun recalled. “It’s been a few years now, and we’re seeing more and more things on the tour. Now, we’re seeing people imitating them. Now it’s one thing.
“In that regard, I think what is exciting about the lab is that I think a lot of people call Sam a crazy scientist. I think people turn around and say, the lab says, it’s going to be a niche brand, it’s going to come, it’s going to come.
