How to make cottage pie

Waitrose
Cottage pie is unwavering in its status as a Great British dish and a perfect comfort food. We recommend serving it with a bowl of buttered garden peas and a bottle of red wine for a heavenly meal. There are few dishes so soothing and warming (although we do have more winter comfort food for you to try).
How to get a crispy top
Run a fork through the mash before you cook it and add generous knobs of butter before you drop it in the oven. This will allow you to get more crispy bits on top, which are always people’s favourite part of the pie.
For extra decadence, add some grated cheddar on top of the mash for the last five minutes of cooking. You’ll end up with an oozy, cheesy top that is crispy in places.
A dash of soy sauce is many chefs’ secret trick to add even more flavour.
What to serve with cottage pie
Try a refreshing side salad or grilled or roasted vegetables on the side of your cottage pie.
