House Democrats leave behind a Congressional Dewey Caucus, saying Musk is “blowing things”

D-Ore. Rep. Val Hoyle said Thursday that she will leave the DOGE caucus due to cost-cutting measures by Elon Musk in the executive branch.
Hoyle made the announcement through a statement, saying her intention for the caucus is to provide a good steward for her constituents’ taxes and to make the government more streamlined and efficient.
But, she said, it was impossible for Musk’s action to be separated from the Congressional Caucus, claiming that Doge’s job is to find funds to provide tax breaks to billionaires at the expense of workers.

Hoyle wrote on Thursday night on X: “I joined the voice for the working people and their interests. But when Elon Musk actively breaks it, it is impossible to fix the system, so I decided leave.”

The newly-cast agency is the main commitment of President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign, whose mission is to cut government waste and provide increased transparency in government spending. It was created through an executive order and is a temporary organization within the White House that will remain in the process of its mission for 18 months until July 4, 2026.
Hoyle said she was shocked by Musk’s team entering the sensitive Treasury Department’s payment system division. She also accused his team of using intimidation tactics to “terrorize hard-working civil servants” who provide these services.

Doge targets Medicare Agency, looking for fraud
A federal judge temporarily blocked the Governor from gaining access to any payment records or payment systems maintained within the Treasury Department’s Department of Finance Services. On Wednesday, the Justice Department agreed in a proposed court order to limit access to sensitive records to two “special government employees” within Doge who will receive a read-only license.
Hoyle said she would stay if she thought she, or the Democrats or Republicans in the caucus, had any impact.
“But fundamentally, when Elon Musk blows things up, I can’t see how we actually do the job,” she told the news agency on Thursday. “It’s like trying to do it in Someone wants to replace the roof when throwing explosives through a window.
“So I’m leaving the Governor’s Caucus and I’m going to continue doing this to find efficiency, but now I just think what’s going on is impossible.”
Doge angered Democrats, especially around the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Hoyle’s announcement came a few days after Doge targeted the agency, leading to 50 top officials and place the organization in the State Department. The actions were conducted under Secretary of State Marco Rubio, acting under Trump’s executive order, suspending all U.S. foreign aid funded by the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development.
The 90-day pause has stopped thousands of U.S.-funded humanitarian, development and security programs around the world and forced aid organizations to lay off hundreds of employees because they can’t make money.

Doge focused most of its initial work on canceling the DEI program, consulting contracts and termination of leases for federal buildings.
The agency wrote on Tuesday that it canceled 12 contracts with the Government Services Administration and the Ministry of Education, saving about $30 million in total. It also canceled 12 unutilized leases with $3 million in savings. On Monday, Doge said it canceled 36 contracts, resulting in a savings of about $165 million for six agencies.
Doge released on January 28 that the group saved the federal government about $1 billion a day, mainly by preventing people from hiring unnecessary positions, removing DEIs and stopping mispayment to foreign organizations.
