Miami- When Brylan West graduated from Tampa Liberty High School in 2020, he did not receive a scholarship.
Not from the NCAA.
Not from NAIA.
There is not even a junior college.
West is a corner infielder who always hits. The problem was that he was severely overweight, weighing 298 pounds.
But when the coronavirus hit that spring, West couldn’t get as much food as usual, and he started losing weight. He lost 20 pounds…then 40 pounds…50 pounds…and finally 70 pounds.
