Months later, as wildfires swept through Los Angeles in January, some Hollywood events were postponed, but the Recording Academy said the Grammy Awards would go ahead as planned. Instead, the show will focus on wildfire relief efforts.
“This year’s show… will bring a new sense of purpose: to raise more funds to support wildfire relief efforts and to honor the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours,” said the Recording Academy executive. Harvey Mason Jr. and Tammy Hurtthe board president wrote in a Jan. 13 letter to Recording Academy members.

The letter continued: “In challenging times, music has the unparalleled power to heal, comfort and unite. The Grammy Awards will not only celebrate the artistry and achievements of our music community, but also serve as a platform to celebrate Los Angeles.” The resilience of this great city.
The Recording Academy also partnered with MusicCares to launch the Los Angeles Fire Relief Campaign, donating $1 million. The letter states that as a result of the additional donations, the organization has distributed $2 million in emergency aid.
