Georgia home paving company attacks rival in ‘Sopranos’-style turf war: police

Six Georgia men who worked for the same family paving company were charged with inciting a fight with a rival paving company on Dec. 19, according to police records.

Mark Buckland Sr., Mark Buckland Jr., Willy Buckland Jr., Willy Buckland Jr., Luke Buckland and James Small are both accused of allegedly assaulting several family members at a rival paving company in Monroe County called EH Paving.

Monroe County Sheriff Brad Freeman told 13 WMAZ the incident was “like something out of The Sopranos.”

The victim, who was working for EH Paving, was paving a customer’s driveway in Bolingbroke at around 1pm on December 19 when several trucks pulled up to the scene in Buckhead Six members of the family worked for a rival paving company in Bolingbroke.

Officers arrived after a 911 caller reported a “massive fight” involving “bats and guns.”

The owner of EH Paving said Mark William Buckland Sr., 50, tried to hit his son in the head with a bat. He further claimed that Willy Buckland Jr., 22, and Buckland Sr.’s 21-year-old son-in-law, Small, attacked the owner’s other son, Luke, 28 Luke Buckland attacked his nephew, the incident report states.

The EH Paving owner believes the Buckland family attacked his family as they were carrying out paving work near one of their properties, which the Buckland family considered “disrespectful”. The store owner claimed Mark Buckland Sr. was carrying a “cowboy-style” gun and pointed it in his face.

The property owner who contacted police said a member of EH Paving fired into a wooded area in an attempt to break up the fight, according to the incident report.

Meanwhile, Mark Buckland Jr. told an officer he was punched in the mouth and blamed the attack when asked why his family was at the property “It’s just a misunderstanding”.

“These are grown men, too,” Freeman told 13 WMAZ. “A grown man with a good reputation.”

Mark William Buckhead Sr. was charged with tampering with evidence, pointing a gun or pistol at another person and criminal trespassing. Luke James Buckland uses simple battery charging. Mark Judy Buckland was charged with simple assault, inciting a riot and criminal trespassing. Small was charged with criminal trespassing and simple assault. Willy Jack Buckland Jr. was charged with criminal trespass and simple assault. Willy Jack Buckland Sr. was charged with criminal trespassing and aggravated assault, Monroe County records show.

As of Monday morning, the six men had been released.
