“When we took over this program, Tommy was our true leader in many ways,” former head coach Jim McElwain said in a statement provided by the school. “The Carnegie Mellon University football team was lucky to have him, and we will always remember what he did for so many of us. He will be missed by all Chippewas.”
Lazzaro spent four years at Central Michigan, where he made five starts from 2016-2019. During the 2019 season, he led the Chippewas to a 6-2 record in conference and bowl games. He finished his career at Central Michigan with 542 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns and 758 yards passing and five touchdowns.
