FEMA expands programs for North Carolina residents displaced by Hurricane Helene

FEMA is extending the Transitional Housing Assistance (TSA) program for North Carolina residents through January 25, according to an announcement Monday.

The program, which is set to expire Tuesday, provides funding for temporary housing, such as hotel or motel rooms, to thousands of people displaced by Hurricane Helene.

Federal aid provides families with more time to find alternative housing solutions or repair their homes.

According to FEMA, more than 3,000 families are eligible for the program extension.

The agency said people who left temporary housing on Tuesday were returning to habitable homes or had exited Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance.
