Families affected by Nottingham attacks said their meeting with the prime minister was a “watershed” in calling for a statutory public investigation.

Barnaby Webber’s mother Emma Webber said she hopes to confirm the inquiry at a Downing Street meeting Wednesday and start later this year.

Valdo Calocane killed Mr. Webber, 19, Taunton’s 19-year-old student, and Grace O’Malley-Kumar and 65-year-old caretaker Ian Coates, before attempting to kill three others in June 2023 in the attack on the city people. .

Calocane, diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in January 2024 for pleasing reduced liability and three counts of attempted murder.

The victim’s families will meet with Home Secretary, Minister of Health and Attorney General Sir Kyle Starmer at a meeting on Wednesday.

Mrs. Webber said the families “recognize the gravity and importance of their meetings.”

Their meeting with the Prime Minister follows NHS England’s report on mental health care reports received by Calocane in the attack, finding that the care and treatment he provided “is not always sufficient to meet his needs”.

Downing Street had previously said that Sir Keel was committed to the investigation led by the judge and did not rule out public investigations with full legal powers.

Mrs. Webber added: “It was a long and painful struggle to get to this point.”
