Expats: British teacher shares why she chose to live in the Middle East

Cora Fraser, a 31-year-old teacher from Scotland, started a new life in Dubai five years ago and has fallen in love with the UAE city.
She previously lived in Aberdeenshire – which she described as “the middle of nowhere” – and was very keen for a change.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, Cora revealed why she chose the Middle Eastern expat haven.
“I always knew I wanted to move away after my first year [of teaching], but I was going backwards and forwards about where”, she said.
“One of my friends was living in Mumbai, and I went to visit her and really loved it.
“I was going between Mumbai and Singapore but then one of my friends – a girl I knew from uni – moved to Dubai and she was messaging me saying it was great.”
Cora’s friend assured her that Dubai boasted a “big expat community”, and that there were lots of English and Irish people there.
The promise of an expat haven coupled with the “ease of getting home” solidified Cora’s decision to move.
The expat added that it’s a good option for those who want to travel. Indeed, other Middle Eastern destinations like Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait are all less than two hours away by plane.
Further afield, Britons in Dubai can venture to India, Sri Lanka, the Seychelles and the Maldives on flights that don’t even scrape the five-hour mark.
Revealing the “best” thing about her new life, Cora explained why it’s a far cry from the UK.
It’s not difficult to understand why so many Britons are keen on Dubai. Known for its lucrative career paths, employment benefits, tax-free income, sunshine and high-quality – often glitzy and glam – lifestyle, it has become a top expat spot.
John Mason International Movers reported a huge 420 per cent increase over the last five years in enquiries from British nationals wanting to relocate to the UAE.
However, it’s important to note that moving abroad always has its challenges and no place is perfect.
Despite loving the UAE city, Cora misses the UK and even admitted she wants to go home.
This is a struggle for many Britons who are keen to relocate somewhere but don’t want to venture too far away from their loved ones.
