The West can survive only when the country prioritizes national interests
LONDON (Reuters) – “The survival of the West” depends on countries that prioritize their own national interests before reaching out to their neighbors, Republican U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Monday.
Speaking through video links at the Responsible Citizens’ Union (ARC) meeting in London, Johnson believed that the United States could maintain its “power and leadership” if its foreign policy was centered on its national interests.
“Each of our country recognizes that we have to be everyone who has to help take care of the neighborhood,” Johnson said.

“As we seek to make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous, we will encourage all our friends and allies to do the same in our own country and in our own country.
“The survival of the West will depend on that.”
Johnson did not specifically mention Ukraine in his speech.
His remarks came a day before U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Ukraine and Europe would be part of any “real negotiations” to end the Moscow war. Rubio downplayed Europe’s focus on the first negotiations between Russia and the United States in the coming days.
Washington sent a questionnaire to the European capital asking them how they could contribute to the security assurance in Kiev.
Trump said last week that he held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin and did not consult European countries to discuss ending the Ukrainian war.
