EasyJet flight makes emergency landing in Portugal after ‘hallucinating passenger’ screams ‘snakes on plane’

An easyJet flight was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger became convinced there were snakes loose on the plane.

The incident occurred on a flight from London Gatwick to Marrakech on Saturday afternoon.

The man, said to have been hallucinating, caused significant disruption on board the aircraft.

One witness told The Mirror: “It sounds funny to hear a passenger screaming ‘snakes on the plane!’, but it was incredibly scary for the families on the easyJet flight.”

The disruption ultimately led to an unscheduled landing and significant delays for all passengers on boar

The disruption ultimately led to an unscheduled landing and significant delays for all passengers on board.

The offending passenger, dressed in a snake print T-shirt, was reportedly shouting: “Snakes on a plane! We need to land!”

According to the witness, it soon became apparent that the man was allegedly under the influence – and “imagining things”.

“No-one quite knew what was going on, or initially if the flyer had actually seen a snake loose among the cabin at 30,000ft,” they said.

Following the incident, the flight, carrying 190 passengers, continued its journey to Marrakech.

The flight ultimately landed in Morocco eight hours after its departure from London Gatwick – more than double the original expected flight duration.

An easyJet spokesman, regarding Saturday’s Gatwick-Marrakech debacle, said: “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY8705 from London Gatwick to Marrakech on April 19 was diverted to Faro due to a passenger behaving disruptively onboard.

“The passenger was met by police on arrival in Faro. The safety of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”
