Drerte, a maverick former mayor who led the Philippines from 2016 to 2022, was arrested on Tuesday when he arrived at the main airport in Manila from Hong Kong.
“The War of Drugs” is Duterte’s signature campaign platform that swept the power of former prosecutors, who soon made his promise in his speech in sulfuric acid to kill thousands of drug salesmen and users.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr said Tuesday that a plane carrying former leader Rodrigo Duterte had left Philippine airspace for The Hague.
Marcos said Duterte was arrested for meeting Interpol’s request and is expected to face charges related to his drug war.
