Donald Trump said he had decided to impose a 25% tariff on EU imports because he lashed out in the EU and said it was “to make it happen to the United States.”
“We have made a decision and we will announce it soon. That will be 25%,” the U.S. president said at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Trump said the tax would be applied “general”, although he specifically mentioned that they would hit the car imports.
The euro fell slightly after Trump’s comments, with a rate of less than $1.049 against the dollar.
