Kelley Blue Book puts the resale value of a 2012 GMC Yukon XL at $8,571, but only if the car is in relatively good condition.
How about a 2012 GMC Yukon XL with 184,000 miles? How about the one that made multiple trips across the U.S. in the mid to late 2010s? Would it help if there was a new gearbox? What if this car was marketed specifically as a “Masters Edition” Yukon GMC, and the license plate stated that it was purchased in Augusta, Georgia, during Masters week?
Oh, what if this car belonged to the two-time Masters champion and undisputed world number one? What if he used that car to go to most golf tournaments in his life? What if he’s still only 28 and has many more golf titles to his name long into the future? How much would it cost to buy his old wheels?
That’s the question facing golf fans around the world on Monday, as Scottie Scheffler’s famed Yukon XL was put up for auction with a starting bid of $50,000. Proceeds from the auction will be handled by Heritage Auctions and will support the Beating Childhood Cancer charity.
Scheffler’s family purchased the Yukon after their previous car broke down while playing in the 2012 Masters with Scottie’s high school golf team. As such, the truck is a special “Master Edition” vehicle with a badge indicating its origins at a General Motors dealership in Augusta, Georgia.
Scott Scheffler gave the car to his son when he turned pro in 2018, and Scottie Scheffler used it for the next five years. Part of that time he drove the car across the United States, beginning his steep climb to the top of the golf world.
After retiring earlier this year, Scheffler’s father suggested that Scotty auction it off to benefit TOKC, a charity started by the family of an old junior golf friend who died of a rare bone cancer. Scotty quickly agreed, and soon after, CBS sportscaster Jim Nantz pledged $50,000 for the car to help boost the bidding.
