Denzel Washington struggles with injuries.
In the New York Times “Interview” podcast, the 70-year-old actor revealed on Saturday that he is recovering after severely damaging vital organs.
“I bit my tongue almost half folded a few months ago,” Washington said.

“It affects my speech,” he continued. “It forces me to slow down. I have to use it.”
Washington explains that his health problems have caused complications, preparing him for his titular role in the Broadway revival of William Shakespeare’s iconic drama Othello, who is also Jake Gyllenhaal.

“I have a line: ‘Will I answer your fee?’ It’s hard because my tongue is swollen,” said the Academy Award winner. “It affects everything.”
Washington provided no details on how he was injured on his tongue or the medical care he received to treat the wound.
However, the Gladiator: 2 star shared that he relied on his beliefs to overcome challenges after the incident.
“That’s why you pray every day,” he explained. “I thought, ‘Okay, Lord, I’m here, I think that’s what you want me to do.’ Now I’m not sure why, but people can say Coincidence, accident and all these things.”

On December 21, Washington was the son of a missionary and was baptized at the Kelly Temple in New York City. The actor shared when appearing on the podcast that he was taking classes to get a minister’s license.

While pondering whether his work as an actor can help people, Washington explains that he is simply seeking verification of higher power.
“It affects everything.”
“At this point, everything I do is through God’s thoughts, not their thoughts.” He said, “I don’t know what they think.”
“You walk that hole and you never come out of it,” Washington added. “When people say, ‘What do you want people to get from this movie?’ or “What do you want them to get from this drama?” “I always say, “It depends on what they bring.” “There are some interesting topics [in ‘Othello’] Jealousy, jealousy, pain and death. ”
And Kenny [Leon]a wonderful director, he puts it in what he calls the near future. So all these things – jealousy, jealousy – as the information age evolved, it brought something completely new. ”

Washington also expressed his belief that Gyllenhaal would be “glorious” in the role of Othello’s nemesis Iago.
“He’s crazy. I love him,” the Tony Award winner said of Gyllenhaal. “He’s complicated. But he’s got it on it.”

“I’m not worried about this because I don’t like learning lines too early,” he added. “I told a young actor and he asked, ‘Why don’t you want to learn too early?’ I said, “Because then I’m listening to my voice to send a prompt to myself. ”
“‘I want to hear your voice, and that will affect what I say.’ To me, this works.”
“Othelro” will premiere at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in New York City on March 25 and will last until June 8.
