Chinese restaurant apologizes after introducing snacks into hot pot soup in video
China’s hotspot giant Haidilao said it would make up for more than 4,000 diners who visited a shop in Shanghai after two diners were immersed in their hot pot.
A video shows two men eating in a private room in Haidilao restaurant, which was circulated online at the end of last month.
Haidilao said Wednesday that the incident occurred on February 24, but was only aware of the problem four days later and initially unable to determine the time and location.
The case shows that the case lacks training procedures, which has resulted in staff not being able to detect this quickly. The company confirmed its location in downtown Shanghai on March 6.
“We fully understand that the troubles caused by this incident to our customers cannot be fully compensated in any way,” the company said in a statement. “We are willing to do our best to assume responsibility.”
The company did not disclose how much it would cost in compensation.
Haidilao reported the case to police in Jianyang, Sichuan, headquartered in the case and other locations.
Police have since detained two 17-year-old men, according to a statement issued by Shanghai police. Haidilao filed a civil lawsuit against them on Monday, the company’s statement added.
