Maine Legislature condemns deputies for convening trans athletes to win women’s competition

The Maine House of Representatives voted for Laurel Libby Tuesday night to show that a recent social media post noted that a trans high school athlete won the women’s competition.

The Democratic majority in the Maine House of Representatives, led by Speaker Ryan Fecteau, passed a 75-70 vote to condemn the resolution. Libby is no longer allowed to speak or vote in the House until she apologizes.

Libby told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview after the vote that she did not intend to apologize for her recent post.

After confirming the condemnation, Fecteau told Libby that members of the House would take a break when Libby thought her apology.

“I told him, ‘We don’t need to relax when I’m going to keep talking to Maine girls,” Libby said.

Libby’s post was posted last Sunday when she noted that a trans track and field athlete ranked first in Maine women’s pole vault after playing as a kid a year ago. The Maine House of Representatives condemned Libby for the fact that she posted photos of the minor and provided the name of the minor.

House Majority Leader Matt Moonen condemned Libby in a statement on the House floor.

House Minority Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham opposes the condemnation, noting that the state legislature’s ethics does not mention online posts made by members.

During Tuesday’s vote, Libby delivered a seven-page preparatory speech about the importance of protecting girls and women’s movements from transgender. But, all night, her microphone was turned off while she tried to give a speech.

“From my first sentence, I was completely unable to speak a message and then before the other party closes me,” Libby said.

Libby said that while she doesn’t intend to apologize, she does have another course of action, where she plans to take action to regain the privilege of voting and speaking, without revealing any details of the plan.

Maine Republicans and Liby voters will now vote and voice on other issues in the state’s legislative process during the busy months.

Libby recently introduced a bill to expand access to mental health resources for Maine residents, which she will not be able to help pass now. In the coming weeks, the Maine Building will vote on the upcoming biennial budget, and Libby will not vote on that.

“It seems I will not be able to speak on this or vote on it,” she said.

Libby’s revelation for trans athletes sparked national dialogue and confronted the state after Maine announced non-compliance with President Donald Trump’s recent executive order “No men in women’s movement” Transgender policies were reported.

“I think the position of Maine Democrats is that they are not working hard enough and they need to dig,” Libby said.

But she hopes Democrats fight for their current position and condemns her Tuesday night, which will backfire.
