Strictly’s Giovanni addresses claims he ‘hasn’t clicked’ with partner Richie Anderson

Giovanni Pernice has hit back at claims that he and Richie Anderson haven't "clicked" after being paired together on this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Giovanni, 32, and radio host Richie, 34, appeared on spin-off show It Takes Two where they appeared to address claims of a feud between them.

Host Janette Manrara asked them how training has been going following the first live show on 24 September, to which Giovanni replied: "We’re having a good time, we’re definitely having a good time.

"Obviously it is a dance competition, at the end of the day, so we have to learn something but there is no problem between us. We are having a good time."

The 32 year old, who won last year's series with actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, then spoke about how his plans for the competition are "the same" despite it being the first time he's been in a same-sex couple on the BBC One show.

"The plans are the same, to teach Richie how to dance. That is the point of the show. I’m a teacher, he’s a student," Giovanni told Janette.

Following the first live show on 24 September, reports have began circulating that Giovanni and Richie have not hit it off behind the scenes, with the Strictly pro growing frustrated with the Radio 2 host.

According to The Sun, one source said: “The pair haven’t clicked. Richie is so swept up by the whole experience that he is talking 100 words a minute, and it can be hard for Giovanni.

“He has told pals that Richie talks instead of listening during training, and it is frustrating.”

However, a different insider said that the pair are still getting used to working together. “Giovanni thinks Richie has real potential in the competition," the source said.

Richie shared a heartwarming post after the first live show, where he thanked Giovanni for being an "amazing teacher".

"A moment I'll never forget and so grateful I got to share it with @giovannipernice. Thank you Gio for being the most amazing teacher over the past fortnight. Last night was a real dream come true moment.

"And what a banger to cha-cha-cha too, Wham I'm your Man. Plenty of feedback from the judges to take on board, can't wait to get back in the rehearsal studio tomorrow and put it into practice. Thank you Gio and @bbcstrictly," the 34 year old wrote alongside a heart emoji.

He's also shared a glimpse of his and Giovanni's rehearsals over the past few days, with the duo coming up with a team name and featuring in fun social media videos together.
