SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Architect Patrik Schumacher faces divorce

SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Superstar architect Patrik Schumacher faces divorce months after court sex claims

He’s a superstar of British architecture whose firm created the ‘masterpiece’ Aquatics Centre for the London 2012 Olympics, but the brilliant Patrik Schumacher is now attracting attention for complications in his private life.

These, I can disclose, led to his appearance — albeit remotely — in the High Court this week, as divorce proceedings got under way between him and his Korean wife and fellow architect, Eunsil Yang.

It’s a poignant development, not simply because the couple married only five years ago, but also because it swiftly follows a protracted courtroom battle which pitted him against developer Lord Palumbo and two other defendants.

That case ended last November — but not before a series of wounding accusations had been made against Schumacher, including claims he had enjoyed sexual relationships with a number of junior members of staff at the firm he heads, Zaha Hadid Architects.

The defendants’ submissions referred to allegations in a report compiled by a legal firm which argued Schumacher ‘used his position to push for significant pay rises, promotions for staff he is in a romantic relationship with that are not based on merit and are in excess of what others are receiving’.

It even claimed he had fathered a child with one of the employees. Lawyers for Schumacher described the allegations as ‘contested and unproven’ and the judge did not make any finding about the claims in his ruling.

He arrived in Britain more than 30 years ago, and became the key collaborator of Iraqi-born Zaha Hadid (pictured together) until her sudden death in 2016

This was not the sort of attention which the softly spoken Schumacher enjoys.

He arrived in Britain more than 30 years ago, and became the key collaborator of Iraqi-born Zaha Hadid until her sudden death in 2016.

Likened by one admirer to ‘Clark Kent with a German accent’, he is so discreet about his personal life most of his colleagues were unaware he had married.

He is similarly reticent about his divorce, and declines to comment.

Her single-minded determination helped her win two Olympic gold medals, but Rebecca Adlington says being pregnant during lockdown is just as big a challenge.

‘You miss the excitement,’ she says. ‘There are friends and family I haven’t even seen since I’ve been pregnant and I’m due any day.’

Adlington, who turns 32 today, is expecting with boyfriend Andrew Parsons. She adds: ‘I did have a virtual baby shower but it isn’t the same.’

Jemima’s back in the hot seat

Left ‘shocked and confused’ when she was ditched after just a month by her lover, The Crown creator Peter Morgan, Jemima Khan knows the show must go on when it comes to work.

he Mail revealed Morgan, 57, had abruptly left Jemima amid rumours he’d returned to his previous girlfriend, Crown star Gillian Anderson.

The television and film producer, 47, shared this photograph from the set of her forthcoming film, What’s Love Got To Do With It? ‘Final week,’ the daughter of billionaire Sir James Goldsmith says of their shoot schedule, pointing to her producer’s chair emblazoned with her name.

Yesterday, the Mail revealed Morgan, 57, had abruptly left Jemima amid rumours he’d returned to his previous girlfriend, Crown star Gillian Anderson.

Shirley’s on a yo-yo diet

Full of self-confidence as head judge on Strictly Come Dancing, Shirley Ballas has revealed she was left racked with insecurity off-screen when she turned 60 last year.

Describing herself as ‘nervous’ before she hit the milestone, the former ballroom champion says: ‘They are all my own insecurities, and I’ve had a lot of image problems over the years.

‘I always struggled with my weight, people even on Strictly will see it go up and down from a size 6 to a size 10. I’m constantly up and down.’

Her actor boyfriend Daniel Taylor, who is 13 years her junior, provided reassurance. ‘He said: “You’ve just got to embrace it.” ’

Now that’s a proper beauty sleep, Jodie

Since she shot to fame as seductive assassin Villanelle in hit BBC drama Killing Eve, many have wondered how Jodie Comer achieves such flawless skin.

Comer moved back to her hometown, Liverpool, last year with her American boyfriend, James Burke, a 26-year-old lacrosse player

Now, she’s revealed her secret: ELEVEN hours’ sleep. ‘At the minute, I’ve been asleep at 8.30pm and getting up at 7am, which is so unheard of,’ says the 27-year-old actress. ‘It’s, like, 11 hours.’

‘If I’m working, I’ll usually get up about 4am and sneak in a workout.’ She adds: ‘I’m a bit of a basic b**** when it comes to my breakfast. I like avocado toast with a poached egg. I hate myself for it.’

Riding high before the pandemic, award-winning actor Sir Simon Russell Beale admits he’s been left ‘a bit frightened’ about his finances.

‘Before I went to New York [to star in The Lehman Trilogy], I sold my flat in Pimlico and bought a house in Wiltshire,’ he says. ‘I was earning a lot of money but after four shows I came back.’

Let’s hope the West End reopens soon.
