Roman Kemp apologises for ‘appalling’ historic tweets ahead of rumoured I’m A Celeb appearance

Capital FM presenter Roman Kemp has made a public apology for “offensive and appalling” historic tweets ahead of his rumoured I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! appearance.

The 26 year old son of Martin Kemp looked downcast as he told his 205,000 Instagram followers he had searched through his Twitter account to see if he had ever “posted anything that could cause harm or offence to someone” and had found some “shocking“ tweets.

Speaking in the video, he said: “I wanted to talk about something I’ve seen a lot of celebrities talk about. I’ve seen people around the world talking about this and that is the use of language online.

“I’ve recently had a friend go through something terrible with a troll online and I think that it encouraged me to take responsibility for myself to look back to see if I’ve ever posted something that could cause harm or offence to someone”.

He continued: “Being totally honest I’m shocked and appalled and ashamed to say that I did find things that I’m not at all proud of. I don’t associate myself with that, I know that the person that wrote those things is not the man that I am now. But, they were there.”

Roman didn’t specify what the tweets said or whom they were aimed at. But, he did continue his public apology with: “I made the conscious decision to get rid of those things and I have deleted those things because I don’t want that negativity in the world.

“I don’t want the legacy that I have on the internet to be a place where there’s negativity or something that can cause offence. I don’t want that.

“And, I just hope that from speaking to you today I encourage you to do the same, to look back, to see if there are things that could still now cause offence.”

He added: “For anyone who has ever been offended for something that I’ve said online I am truly, deeply, and utterly sorry.”

The radio presenter then encouraged his fans to take the same actions as him.

“And, I think going forward I wanna be that good social media user that spreads happiness about humans, not negativity and I hope that you watching this wanna do the same,” he said. “So, I guess, together let’s make the internet a bit of a better place. Thanks.”

Roman’s Twitter trawl comes shortly after it was reported he would be set to enter the jungle in the new series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

A source told he "pestered" a teenage girl for underwear pictures. “Roman is a fun, loquacious young star and a super-well-connected.

“He must have countless showbiz tales about his pals.”

The insider continued of his late Godfather, George Michael: “If he chose to reminisce about George, that could be quite emotional.”

Roman’s actions could be seen as a preventative measure to avoid a replay of Jack Maynard’s short-lived jungle journey.

Jack was kicked off the show in 2017 after historic racist and homophobic tweets were found on his account.

He later apologised by sharing an explanation video to his YouTube account and shared a written statement on his Instagram.

The statement read: “I’m sure you’re all aware, that due to recent press I am now back in the UK, and I have the opportunity to apologise for my past actions.

“I am ashamed, embarrassed, and it was unacceptable behaviour – my full apology link in my bio. Jack x.”
