Metallica have launched a new website, MetallicaXX.com, that features a countdown clock which will reach zero at 12 pm ET on Thursday. The band posted a link to the new website on Twitter.
Although no additional details have been provided by the band, fans speculate the XX could refer to the period since the release of their live album S&M twenty years ago. The album was released on November 23, 1999.
It is also being speculated that the band could announce a new project or a series of festival appearances during 2020.
Metallica’s new S&M2 movie, capturing the band’s two performances with the San Francisco Symphony last month, premieres on Wednesday, a day before the zero date.
The two performances were held to mark the opening of Chase Center, the new home of the Golden State Warriors.
