Kim suffered from health issues during her first two pregnancies, including placenta accrete, where the placenta grows too deeply into the uterine wall.

Opening up about her decision to chose a surrogate for her third child, she told Elle in 2018: "The control is hard at the beginning. Once you let that go, it's the best experience. I would recommend surrogacy for anybody."

The couple kept the identity of their original surrogate private.

Speaking openly about the woman she chose to carry her child, Kim added: "I have the best relationship with my surrogate. She’s so nice. She is the perfect person to do this for my family."
