Erykah Badu has urged fans not to copy wearing her hazmat outfit – as she fears that the design might offer no protection from catching the deadly Coronavirus.
The 49-year-old Didn't Cha Know? singer created a wave of headlines around the world on Thursday after she sported a designer Louis Vuitton hazmat outfit to the Austin Film Society’s 20th annual Texas Film Awards.
The Grammy Award winning star drew attention when she customised a plain white hazmat outfit with designer logos as she picked up a soundtrack award.
And while the star drew attention for posting photos and selfies alongside a slogan: “social distancing couture”, she has since hit out to warn fans not to blindly follow her as she warns the attire may offer zero defence against catching viruses.
“I’m also here to correct any misconception that THIS suit will in any way protect one from the corona virus,” she wrote on Instagram on Saturday.
“I had hoped that THIS SUIT would protect me from bulls*** .. I guess I’ll have to take this mf back.. but seriously,” she continued.
She then steered her discussion to a philosophical level.
“Did the Coronavirus’ “fear epidemic” – wait , AND IN NO WAY ARE WE DIMINISHING THE SEVERITY OF THE PANDEMIC- again,” she wrote
“Did the coronavirus’ “fear epidemic really create “SOCIAL DISTANCING “ & CONSPICUOUS CONSUMPTION / OVER-CONSUMING? An Open dialogue,” she added.
Erykah is one of the many musicians around the world to cancel tour plans following the growing concern over the Coronavirus pandemic.
The On & On singer had been due to perform in Atlanta on Friday night – but cancelled the tour out of concerns due to the virus.
The Jonas Brothers, Green Day and Avril Lavigne are among fellow musicians who have cancelled tours due to the virus.
While Coachella music festival has announced it will be postponed to a later date in 2020 – and Glastonbury festival risks being shut down following changed in the UK government approach to dealing with the health crisis.
