Piers Morgan took to Twitter last night to announce that after 12 years, he was stepping down from the show. The 56-year-old went on to say that his friend and former colleague Kate Garraway, 54, will take over his role in the new series. In view of his eight million followers, he wrote: “I’m quitting Life Stories after 12 years and 100 shows.

“My final one will be with ⁦my fabulous friend @kategarraway and she will then present the remaining 3 planned shows of the next series as I leave ITV to host my new global daily show. It’s been a blast!”

Dan Walker, 44, replied to his post, writing: “You’ve had some amazing guests over the years. I’m sure @kategarraway will be brilliant.

“All the best with the new show.”

The nice message may come as a surprise to fans as the pair have clashed several times on Twitter in the past.

The pair have clashed over the likes of ratings, Meghan Markle and salaries.

Earlier this month, Piers shared his thoughts on Dan’s Strictly Come Dancing efforts so far.

The BBC Breakfast host has been impressing the judges with his moves alongside dance partner Nadiya Bychkova.

Piers tweeted: “Very disappointing by Mr Dan Walker… I was hoping you would be a lot worse than that!”

Strictly: It Takes Two host Rylan Clark-Neal told Dan about the comment on the show.

He said: “I think we have finally ended some beef from years gone by because Piers Morgan has been in touch!”

Rylan went on to read out the tweet, which he referred to as a “backhanded compliment”.

“That is true,” the father-of-three agreed, but added: “I am far more interested in what my daughter thought.”

In October 2020, Piers hit back at Dan regarding their respective show’s viewing figures.

The BBC presenter praised the show for being a popular hit and Britain’s number one watched morning show.

The ex Good Morning Britain host shared Dan’s tweet claiming that it was his ITV show which had higher figures.

Dan told Radio Times last year: “He hates that we still get double the audience every morning, despite all the money they’ve spent on GMB.”

Piers also mocked Dan’s salary after the annual BBC salaries were announced.

The presenter claimed that his rival’s pay was “one eighth of a [Gary] Lineker” in 2017.

Back in March, the presenter also couldn’t resist tweeting Piers about his Good Morning Britain departure.

The journalist left the show after refusing to apologise for comments he said about Meghan Markle.

Dan later tweeted: “Sorry to hear the news about your departure from GMB @piersmorgan If you’d like to come on the UK’s number 1 breakfast show to talk about it… we could make some space for you in the morning.”
