Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has been a staple of the ITV soap for 32 years but some fans may be surprised to hear that the Steve McDonald actor’s last name is actually Gregory.
As Simon reportedly prepares to join the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Cast later this year, it may come as a shock to viewers that his full name is actually Simon Alan Gregory.
When Gregson first made his way onto our screens in 1986 at the age of 15, he was credited under the name of Gregory.
But as the actor joined the actor’s union a year later at 16, he was informed he would have to change it as no two performers were allowed to use the same name.

Swapping to the stage name of Simon Gregson, he has remained credited as such ever since.
Fans unaware of the reasoning for the change had previously jumped on Twitter to ask: "Explain yourself, Simon Gregson, or Simon Gregory, whoever you are! I demand answers!"
Another replied: "Ah I know this feeling. My Wife watches Law and Order SVU religiously. One of the main characters (goodie) was once on as a baddie. We need answers!"
Simon had first secured the role of Steve McDonald after producers had visited his Stockport school in search of kids to play teenage twins, Andy and Steve.
Joining the cast alongside classmate Nicholas Marc Cochrane, Simon has remained a well-known face in drama for over 30 years.
Now set to branch out into reality television, Simon will reportedly be joining Eastenders’ Ian Beale, Adam Woodyatt, for a go at the highly popular celebrity challenge.
Simon’s on screen mother Liz, Beverley Callard, had appeared on the show last year and the ITV bosses reportedly think he will be a great addition.
A source speaking to The Sun said: "Bosses know Corrie fans will get right behind him.
"Everyone knows Simon as Steve but now they’ll get to see a completely different side of him for the first time.
"Simon has previously shunned all reality shows and he has turned down I’m A Celeb a number of times before. But now his children are older, Simon started to think the timing was right."
I’m a celeb will be help at the Gwrych Castle in Abergele, Wales, again later this year due to coronavirus restrictions taking Australia off the table as an option.
