Coronation Street star Sam Aston and wife Briony are expecting their second child together.
The 28 year old actor revealed the happy news on Instagram as he shared an adorable snap of 14-month-old son Sonny holding a chalkboard sign reading: “We’re adding another pumpkin to our patch! Due Spring 2022.”
The little boy is stood in a white studio surrounded by pumpkins in the Autumn-themed snap.
Sam’s Corrie co-stars were delighted by the news with Brooke Vincent writing: Ahhhhhhhhh congratulations.”
Sally Ann Matthews wrote: "Oh my!!! Congratulations to you both x."
Rachel Leskovac wrote: “Yaaaaaaay – many congratulations xx”
And Alexandra Mardell penned: “Congrats guys! So cute” with love heart emojis.
Fans also sent their congratulations to the young couple and commented on how much Sonny looked like his actor-dad.
Sam, who’s played Chesney Brown on the cobbles since 2003, and his wife Briony spoke to OK! in August about their dream to expand their small family and fill the house with children.
“If we’re lucky enough I’d still love to,” says Briony, the co-owner of the Happy Baby Studio. “We need a bigger house though!
“I wouldn’t try just yet as I don’t want to risk having another premature baby, but I’d love to have brothers and sisters for him.”
Sonny arrived six weeks before his due date on 11 August 2020, which was “stressful” at the time and led to Sonny and Briony being in hospital for nine days after the birth.
The couple have loved parenthood, Briony even said it was “the best thing ever” so it’s no surprise the couple are expecting their second child.
“Yeah, it would be nice to fill the house,” Sam disclosed to OK! earlier this year, “There is room for one more and then we’d be maxed out!
“I’m just enjoying this time with Sonny so much and every stage I’m loving so I don’t feel in any kind of rush to have another one right now. We’re still young and hopefully have time on our side.”
Briony revealed she’d love to have a large family, when we asked how many children she’d want, she exclaimed: “I’d definitely like to fill a car! Maybe a people carrier [laughs].”
While Sam would prefer a smaller family.
“I think two is a nice number,” the Corrie actor commented, “I’m one of nine and put it this way, we won’t be having nine!”
