Earlier this year Sarah said that her doctor told her she would not see another Christmas as the cancer had spread to other parts of her body.

Sarah wrote in her autobiography, Hear Me Out, that she initially put off getting medical advice despite finding lumps underneath her arms in December 2019.

Once she saw a doctor she was advised to get an MRI scan but she said: "Coronavirus hit and everything either went into slow motion or stopped altogether. I was aware that I needed to get this health issue sorted, but with everything that was going on, it was tough."

When Sarah died in September, Cheryl posted a photo to her Instagram page and wrote: "Although we knew this day would arrive I am somehow still feeling at a loss for words that our stunning, unique, crazy, quirky, kind and soft hearted girl has departed."

Cheryl gave her condolences to the Girls Aloud fans, describing them as 'an extended family'.

"I also realize so many will be deeply affected by the circumstances of Sarah’s passing… I am sending you all so much love. I love you Sarah… farewell."
