Celebrities blast pro-Trump protesters for storming US Capitol

Celebrities such as Cardi B, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Gad, and Piers Morgan have slammed pro-Trump protestors for storming the US Capitol Building.

A US Congress hearing to certify Joe Biden as president was halted on Wednesday after Donald Trump supporters forced their way into the building.

Vice President Mike Pence was rushed away from the Capitol to a safe location, with senators being evacuated to safety through underground tunnels.

As the scenes played out live, Avengers star Mark Ruffalo tweeted: ‘This is a coup attempt on behalf of Trump and his complicit allies. This is All on Trump and his administration. The cowards in the GOP must be held accountable. #CoupAttempt’

He continued: ‘Imagine if this was our side. There would be rivers of our blood in the streets and not a single one of us would be armed. This has been allowed. #CoupAttempt.’

Rapper Cardi B tweeted, ‘Where the National guards ?’ before adding: ‘The irony is pretty funny………weren’t people just wild animals in the summer for demanding justice and now?……Let me just watch.’

She then wrote: ‘And y’all better NOT BE OUTSIDE!!These are wild thugs out here ! Stay home. This ain’t our business.Stay at home safe but dangerous!’

Journalist Piers Morgan wrote: ‘My god.. Trump supporters have stormed the US Capitol building. Never seen anything like this… scary situation, all driven by President @realDonaldTrump’s insane behaviour & rhetoric. Shameful.’

The Good Morning Britain presenter then added: ‘Send in the military. Now. #USCapitol.’

In another tweet, he added: ‘Your violent thugs are launching a coup at the US Capitol, @realDonaldTrump and it’s all on YOU and your horrific antics since losing the election. Stop this madness now before it ends in tragedy.’

Actor Armie Hammer tweeted: ‘It’s a good thing this wasn’t a BLM rally or else these assholes would have actual riot police to deal with.’

Elsewhere Frozen star Josh Gad wrote: This is either a dereliction of duty by the Capital Police or a complicit desire to not plan for the known threat of chaos today.

‘Either way, this is inexcusable. If you can be prepared for imaginary ANTIFA protestors, you had no business not prepping for these actual terrorists.’

President Trump did not condemn the protests in a tweet sent afterward which read: ‘Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!’
