Carol Vorderman sets record straight on being seen with Matt Hancock

Carol Vorderman often attends race meetings and so there was no surprise when she was spotted at Cheltenham Festival 2023 on Tuesday. The Countdown legend sparked backlash online after she was pictured chatting to Matt Hancock on the balcony of a hospitality suite.

It comes just months after the presenter took a dig at the West Sussex MP following his appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The 62-year-old was seen talking with Mr Hancock and his girlfriend Gina Coladangelo at the race meeting.

Carol has since taken to Twitter and set the record straight over the conversation.

The mathematician dismissed reports she had been cosying up to Mr Hancock placing particular emphasis on the last four syllables of his name.

With a shocked expression on her face, Carol explained she will “tell us what happened” as the presenter added she is a keen attendee at the races.

“I love the races so my friend Jules and I go, ‘we’re just going out early to the terrace to watch Honeysuckle,'” she told her 726,000 followers.

Carol explained it was Honeysuckle’s final race before retirement and decided to watch from the terrace where she was “virtually alone”.

She then got tapped on her shoulder by someone saying, “Hello, my name is Gina.”

The radio host continued: “I turned around and it’s Matt Hancock. ‘Hello, my name’s Matt.’ And I said, ‘Hi, I’m Carol and this is my friend Jules.’ You can’t call them [inaudible] in a royal box can you?”

The presenter went on to say that it was Gina who explained Matt was into racing and that his constituency is in Newmarket.

Carol said: “Gina said [Matt] has riden in a race. I said that’s interesting but we want to watch the race, so we turned around to watch the course. But he said, ‘oh by the way thank you for everything that you do with your son about enlighteing people about dyslexia. I am dyslexic.'”
