Billie Shepherd rules out home birth as she admits ‘I’m not as chilled as Sam’

Billie Shepherd has revealed she is has ruled out a home birth for her third child as she’s “not as chilled” as her younger sister Sam Faiers.

Speaking exclusively to OK! about her decision, the pregnant star says she began to “overthink” giving birth at home, leading her to opt to go into hospital.

“In the beginning I really did consider a home birth,” she tells us. “My sister [Sam Faiers] has had two amazing home births that I’ve been there for, but I think I would overthink the situation too much leading up to it. I started to do that.

“I was thinking, ‘Should I have the kids there or not?’ I started to question myself on all different things.

“In the end I just thought, I’ve had two really great, straightforward labours in hospital with Nelly and Arthur so why change it?

"I’ll just do what I know. As soon as I made that decision I felt more relaxed.”

Sister Sam, 31, gave birth to her third child, son Edward, in May, standing up in the kitchen of her Surrey home, with her children Rosie and Paul at her side. But while Billie says the experience was “amazing”, she isn’t as laid-back as her sibling.

The reality star, who recently moved into her dream home in Essex, says: “Sam was like, ‘You have to do whatever you feel comfortable with.’

"Because I’ve seen her home births and how amazing they were, I was like, I would love to do that, but I think she knows with me I’m in a different frame of mind and I’m not as chilled as her in those situations.

“[Husband] Greg is a real panicker, too, so the two of us combined might not have been as chilled out, and to have a home birth you have to be really in the zone and relaxed and I was worried I wasn’t going to be that person.”

But Billie, who is already mum to Nelly, eight, and Arthur, five, with husband Greg Shepherd, still hopes Sam will be able to be by her side through the experience.

“As soon as I go into labour, my mum or me will call her straight away and she’ll drive straight over and hopefully she will be allowed in,” she tells us.

“We’ve always just juggled it between me, Samantha and Greg, so it will just depend on the day, but she’ll be around no matter what.”

The subject was a big topic of discussion on the latest series of Billie and Greg’s ITVBe reality show The Family Diaries, but as for whether or not the camera crew will be in the room, Billie, who is due December 6, says she won't be doing a Kourtney Kardashian.

She says: “There may be some footage. Look, we’re not talking all the gory details but it will be home footage that we’re going to capture ourselves.

“We’re not going to have the film crew there, as much as they would have liked to be there!”
