Carnival cruise passengers face new scam; cruise line wins awards

Scammers are becoming more sophisticated.

Yes, there are probably still people out there sending emails telling people they’ve inherited money and just need to hand over their bank account to get it. And, there may still be people posing as princes running similar scams and lottery versions of the same “hand over your bank account information” scam.

However, in many cases, scams have become more high-tech. A grandparent may receive a call from a grandchild asking for money that appears to come from the child’s number.

You may receive a call that appears to be from your bank, warning of an overdraft, but is not actually from your bank.

That’s why it’s important to be vigilant, skeptical, and always make sure you’re talking to people and companies you truly believe in.

One Carnival passenger almost learned this lesson the hard and expensive way.

Good morning. Here’s the cruise news for Monday, January 20th.

Cruise passengers are being warned about a scam targeting Carnival cruise customers. Now, scammers are posing as cruise line representatives, claiming they need to pay unpaid balances or fees, while forcing guests to provide their credit card information. This is done through emails and fake online ads.

A recent report claimed that a passenger nearly paid $456 after calling a fake number found online.

The number was disguised as a Carnival Cruise Line number.

However, they did contact Carnival directly through its official website and resolved the issue free of charge. To avoid scams, experts recommend verifying contact information through the cruise line’s official website and avoiding unsolicited calls or emails asking for financial details
