Swedish golfer Anna Nordqvist was appointed European captain on Monday to play the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands next year.

Last year, Europe will hope to regain the Cup after losing 15½-12½ on U.S. soil. That was the Americans’ first victory since 2017.

The 37-year-old Nordqvist, still active on the Women’s European Tour, is the vice captain of the 2023 and 2024 matches, representing Europe nine times in the women’s golf course’s largest team match.

She is one of the most successful players on the European team, winning Solheim Cup five times in 35 games and 17 victories in her 35 games.

“Whether we win or lose, the Solheim Cup has played such a big role in my career since our debut in Chicago in 2009,” Nordkwester said. “I built it The friendship and the memories I made in the nine games I played made it so special that I had the opportunity to be captain of Europe in my 10th Solheim Cup.”

The 2026 edition will be held at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, a village located in the southern Netherlands close to the historic cathedral city of Den Bosch. This will be the first time the Netherlands has held a Solheim Cup.
