Boston Mayor Michelle Wu responded to critics who accused her of being overly sympathetic to the possible stabbing victims killed by police, accusing them of “politicizing” the situation.
The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Lmark Jaramillo, who was allegedly attempted to stab two people in a Chick-Fil-A restaurant near Boylston Street and was killed by an off-duty policeman. Police said the officer identified himself and instructed Jaramillo to lower his weapon before pulling the trigger.
On Monday, Wu said, “Unfortunately politicized at the scene of a tragic incident.”
“Our officers are in extremely difficult and dangerous situations every day,” said the politician who took office in 2021. “I join the police commissioner and the district attorney to express my condolences because every death is a terrible tragedy.”

Wu also said she “works for our Boston police every day.”
She added: “In this case, we have an off-duty official who saw something, his training started and took action that would certainly save more lives.”
Wu is answering questions about her criticism from Rep. Nancy Mace.
“The Mayor of Boston’s Condolences – Waiting for a knife-wielding man to try to kill someone!” South Carolina’s congresswoman wrote. “Thankfully, this guy was stopped in his track by a brave law enforcement officer.”
WU in particular did not quote the victims of attempted stabbing during Saturday’s press conference. Instead, she said she was considering those “impacted” by the incident that happened in the “busy part” of Beantown.
“My condolences and all our thoughts are with the families of the people who lost their lives,” Wu said. “And I’m still thinking about all the people who are affected today in this tragic busy area of the city.”

She continued: “I am glad the officers are safe and very grateful that we are here for getting a quick response from all the first responders again.”
It’s not just a mace – Conservatives across the country slammed Wu for regretting the suspect’s death.
One of Wu’s many online commentators is conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who advised the 40-year-old to leave the office.
Kirk wrote: “Boston, I will do my best to say: You desperately need a new mayor. Trust me.”

Former Boston resident Fox News contributor Joe Concha also expressed doubts about Wu’s response.
“How can Boston vote again?” Concha wrote. “I live in the Houwan area. This is one of the safest areas in the city. She expresses her condolences?
WU will travel to Washington, D.C. this week, where she plans to testify in Boston’s Congress Sheltered city policy. She is one of four Democratic mayors who plan to speak.
