Padres sign Mike Brosseau – MLB trade rumors

Padres have agreed to terms with infielder Mike BrosseauAs announced by his agent Joe Rosen of Icon Sports Management. While Rosen didn’t specify, it can be assumed Brosseau signed a minor league deal.

Brosseau has a career slash line of .242/.313/.428 in 647 major league games with the Rays and Brewers from 2019-23. Brosseau played primarily second base and third base during his five seasons in the MLB, but also played first base, shortstop and both corner outfield, a versatility that made him a useful Part time player. He’s also put up good numbers in his first two seasons and in 2022, his first in Milwaukee.

Unfortunately for Brosseau, he struggled to hit a .654 OPS in 78 PA in 2023, leading the Brewers to cut him from the roster entirely that July and then release him so Brosseau could Deal with Chiba Rakuten Marines in Japan. Brosseau played 37 games in the NPB without success and returned to North American baseball in 2024, hitting a combined .263/.356/.417 with the Royals and Mets’ Triple-A affiliates. PA, over 405 points.

padres first baseman Louis Alas and second baseman Jack Cronenworth Both are left-handed hitters, as are the projected backups Tyler Wade and Trenton Brooks. Brosseau could be viewed as a complement to Wade, providing the Padres with some useful infield coverage, with both Wade and Brosseau able to play inside the diamond. Brosseau has one minor league option year remaining, giving San Diego potential flexibility to move him back and forth from Triple-A throughout the season.
