Drunk driving suspect tells Southern California police officer: ‘I drove drunk tonight’

Just hours into 2025, an alleged drunk driver in Murrieta may have committed the worst gaffe of the year captured on video by police.
Murrieta police said in a statement that shortly after the start of the new year, an officer “noticed a vehicle suddenly crossing the street and initiated a traffic stop to investigate a potential DUI” — or suspicion of driving under the influence. People who drive under the influence.
During the traffic stop, which was captured on police body camera footage, the suspect said he was driving a friend home because “I was driving drunk tonight.”

The driver stopped, clearly at a loss for words, and meekly apologized.
During the subsequent encounter, the suspect admitted to drinking and was given a field sobriety test, police video shows. He nearly fell down a few times as he tried to walk in a straight line and count.
He was eventually arrested and jailed for driving under the influence, Murrieta police said.
