“Captain America” star Anthony Mackie says race never hinders Hollywood career
“Captain America: Brave New World” star Anthony Mackie said his race has not stopped him from playing or playing a major role in Hollywood.
Mackie talked about Deadline in an interview posted Tuesday, where he talked about the titular role once played by actor Chris Evans, the upcoming fourth in the Captain America movie series Expect.
McGee said when he played Sam Wilson when he first joined the Marvel Universe in 2014, he never imagined he would one day play Captain America.
“No Chris Evans grew up to Captain America,” he said.

When Deadline asked if it was because he was black, Mackie replied: “No, I’m black or the idea of barriers. I’ve been black all my career.”
He continued: “I have never been restricted due to my skin color. If I encounter someone limiting my skin color, I lose touch with that person with my career.”
The actor went on to explain how he convinced director Kathryn Bigelow to play a bigger role in the 2008 Oscar-winning war movie The Hurt Locker.
McGee said that while his character was originally written for white actors, he convinced Bigelow to play the role that “war does not know race”, the film is about “brotherhood rather than race.”

He continued: “But, in my career, I’ve been writing roles for white actors, and I was able to do that later because the director was open to the idea of meeting other people’s characters.”
McGee said he searches for characters based on their qualities rather than their race.
“That’s the role I want. I want to play a big role, not because they’re black, but because they’re great roles,” he said in the interview.
The “Captain America” star caused controversy last month during the movie’s news tour, when he said his role should not represent the United States.
“Captain America represents a lot of different things, and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of them,” he said while promoting the film in Rome, Italy on January 27.

After the comments spread, McGee clarified his remarks.
“Let me know this clearly, I am a proud American, and the shield of a hero like a hat is a lifetime honor,” McGee wrote in a comment shared on his Instagram account. “I’m with those services.” and those who serve our country show the greatest respect. The cap has a universal characteristic that people around the world can connect with.
McGee has starred in “Avengers: Infinity War“Captain America: Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War.” His character, Sam Wilson, also known as the Falcon, is a regular companion to Steve Rogers, Steve Rogers was the civilian who initially became Captain America.
