Bill Maher blasts DEI efforts, calling them pointless ‘virtue signaling’ used by the left to ‘make themselves feel better’

Liberal comedian Bill Maher dismisses diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts as meaningless virtue signaling from the left that does nothing to address racial divisions or inequality in America
In a new episode of the “Club Random” podcast released Sunday, Maher joins late-night icon Jay Leno to discuss efforts to advance DEI at institutions and businesses across the U.S.

“Virtue signaling and what they do to make themselves feel better about being allies” distracts from addressing the root of the problem, Maher said.
“You want to be a good ally and solve real problems. Any racial issues in this country are not going to be solved through DEI and programs like this,” he said pointedly.
Maher believes the solution comes down to three things.
“Better schools. Don’t graduate kids who know nothing and have no skills,” he said. “More fathers. And the war on drugs. Those are practical things, that’s not what they care about.”
Maher often uses his podcast to speak out against the left’s embrace of woke culture. “We’ve reached a point where you can’t even approach certain topics, certain topics, and the mob will come after you,” he declared last year.

In a sober assessment of the reasons for Democrats’ post-election defeat in November, Maher told his audience, “There’s no question that this election had a lot to do with what I said here and was lost because of what I’ve said over the years. We have a lot of fans, and this country has had enough of those counter-intuitive people who wake up bulls——”
In June, while debating the issue on a podcast with liberal journalist Kara Swisher, Maher said there was a “weaponization” of white guilt in the United States and an attempt to exaggerate racism.

DEI initiatives have become a major area of investment in recent years, but their actual effectiveness remains a topic of debate, with many wondering whether they may exacerbate tensions rather than alleviate them.

Pressure on private companies to abandon DEI commitments has produced significant changes, with critics denouncing these commitments as discriminatory and ineffective. Walmart, Nissan and American Airlines have recently joined a growing list of major companies halting so-called “wake-up” programs, and others are expected to follow.
