GOLFZON Tour Game 8 Recap: Los Angeles vs. Minneapolis
In the final match of the GOLFZON Tour quarter-finals, Los Angeles and Minneapolis faced off on the most popular course in the world: Kingsbarns Golf Course in Scotland, home to the DP World Tour Al Long-time host of the Fred Dunhill Links Championship. Teams compete in real-time at their respective regional simulator locations.
Los Angeles was one of four teams to receive a bye in the first round of match play in the qualifying phase, while Minneapolis already has a head-to-head victory on its resume after defeating Chicago in the second game. .
Los Angeles got on top first, winning on the first hole. Minneapolis fought back with a win on day two to get the game back on track. The two teams were tied on the 3rd hole, and Los Angeles won consecutively on the 4th and 5th holes to once again gain the advantage. Subsequently, Minneapolis got a goal back on the 6th hole to tie the score at 1. 3 points.
That meant Minneapolis had a big gap to overcome, and only nine holes to do it. Unfortunately, the hole they were in got deeper and Los Angeles won the 10th hole by four shots. The Minneapolis team launched a counterattack with a victory on the 11th, chasing the score to 3 points. The 12th hole proved to be decisive as Los Angeles won to get back to a 4-hole lead, and then they also won the 13th hole to take a 5-hole lead. That means Minneapolis needs to win five holes in a row to move toward sudden death.
Ultimately, Los Angeles — and their clutch putt — proved too much to overcome. A tie on the 14th hole meant the game was over, with Los Angeles defeating Minneapolis 5-4 to qualify for the semifinals. Los Angeles is one of only four teams still competing for the $150,000 grand prize and will next face Tulsa in the semifinals of the GOLFZON Tour.
