In iOS 18.2 and later, the Mail app enhances email management by automatically sorting messages into different categories. This feature is designed to help you find and manage your email quickly.
Category overview
- Basic: Contains personal and time-sensitive information.
- trade: Track confirmations, receipts and shipping notifications.
- renew: Includes news, newsletters and social media updates.
- Promotions: Display coupons and sales emails.
notes: If a message in the Deals, Updates, or Promotions category contains time-sensitive information, it will also appear in the Main category.

Now that you have iOS 18.2 or later, let’s explore how to use the new mail sorting feature:
- Open Mail application on your iPhone.
- At the top, you’ll see four new categories: basic, trade, renew and Promotions.
- Click any category View emails sequenced specifically for this section.
- If you want to see all your emails together, swipe from right to left at the top to show “All mail” options.
- After updating to iOS 18.2 or later, the default value is “category” view. If you click three horizontal points In the upper right corner of your inbox, you’ll see it’s set to category.
- If you don’t want to use categories, click three horizontal points again and select List view.

To secure important emails e.g. CyberGuy Newsletterbelongs to the “Main” category:
- Scroll through your inbox to find and click any Email from CyberGuy newsletter.
- If you don’t have one on hand, check your “Rubbish” or”Promotions” folder.
- Click Left arrow.
- Click where it says “Classify senders.”
- tap Basic.
- Then, click continue.
