WTA celebrates great improvement in global audiences

WTA celebrates the 2024 banner for the rise of global audiences.

According to the tour, WTA’s cumulative global audience reached a record 11% of 1.1 billion on global broadcast and streaming platforms last year.

Saudi Arabia’s first year of the WTA final also had a significant impact.

The WTA final attracted the largest audience in any year-end final in WTA history, with 78 million viewers worldwide, and the competition for audiences increased by 160% in the previous year’s events.

In an email, the trip saw Chinese engagement as a major reason for the total. The tour recently announced that it will expand its audience in China in the 2025 season after WTA Ventures and Tencent announced a new deal. The agreement means that Tencent’s digital platform will provide coverage in every game on the Holographic WTA Tour, to the end-of-season WTA finals of PIF in November, including all WTA 250, 500s and 1000s, in addition to the Activities participated in mainland China.

Currently, five Chinese singles players are ranked in the top 100 in the WTA rankings, led by Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen.

The WTA said two-thirds of its global audience are under 45 years old and has seen a 15% increase in attendance at WTA events to 3.5 million.
