Andy Dorfman I underwent “quick/safe surgery” in the hospital less than a week after giving birth.
“Webb, we’re back! This time for mom (minor setback, needing quick/safe surgery), but first a quick snuggle with this little nugget,” said Dorfman, 37, on Saturday, December 28 wrote on Instagram Story, sharing a selfie in the hospital with her infant daughter.
She added: “Lesson learned: No matter how ignorant you are about motherhood, you still know your body best! Listen to it! Yes, recovery is hard and everyone is different, but your instincts are valid (and may be correct).
The former Bachelorette gave birth to daughter Harper Bell on December 20, her first child with her husband Brian Hart. After they were discharged from the delivery room, Dorfman began experiencing “tremendous pain.”
“It got worse every day,” she recalled Saturday. “Despite the internet saying recovery would take time, I still felt like something wasn’t right and finally after trying all the home remedies I called my doctor and they told me to come straight in.”
Dorfman was diagnosed with a “large and small hematoma” that was causing her discomfort. According to the Cleveland Clinic, a hematoma is defined as a closed wound where blood collects and fills a space in the body because it cannot flow or drain.

Andy Dorfman/Courtesy of Instagram“Within hours, we were at the hospital and preparing for surgery,” Dorfman wrote Saturday. “It’s a very simple procedure, but still great for a six-day-old baby, and there’s still a lot of hormones lurking.”
The former lawyer further emphasized the importance of trusting “your body” and your gut when something doesn’t feel right.

“Trust that your doctor truly cares about your health and well-being, and don’t be afraid to reach out to them,” Dorfman concluded. “I felt a little guilty for worrying about myself instead of my daughter, but I realized that if I wasn’t okay, she wasn’t okay. Hopefully this helps anyone out there who is doubting their postpartum recovery.
Dorfman became famous for Juan Pablo Galaves‘Season 18 Bachelor in 2014 and later became the next Bachelorette. During her season, Dorfman got engaged Josh Murray Only to break up within a few months. She later fell in love with Hart and tied the knot in 2023.
“Introducing…Harper Berhalter,” Dorfman wrote on Instagram on December 22. “Our sweet girl came into the world weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces and was as tall as her daddy, a whopping 20.5 inches tall! We loved her more than we could have ever imagined. I watched her cry right then and there with daddy hugging her completely Cute little fingers.
