Andi Dorfman explains why her newborn daughter is ‘exclusively formula fed’

Dorfman, 37, gave birth to her first child, whom she shares with her husband Brian HartOn Thursday, December 20, 2024, she candidly explained her feeding methods through a series of Instagram Stories.

Revealing fans were messaging her to see if she was breastfeeding her baby, the former spinster details about her situation.

“Well, first of all, my sister and I were both formula-fed babies. So I felt like this was always in my plan,” Dorfman said. “Then I’ll use a breast pump to feed her breast milk so I know how much she’s drinking.”

Dorfman said her baby’s unexpected stay in the neonatal intensive care unit, where Harper was being fed formula, changed her feeding plan.

“So I was in the hospital trying to pump, but my milk wasn’t coming out,” Dorfman continued. “She actually did well on formula, so we took a lot home from the hospital. When we got home, I tried pumping a few times, but my milk still wasn’t coming.

Dorfman continued, “So we just kept going with that formula. And then, the plan got disrupted – as you know, I ended up having to have the surgery myself. So, I think, that also kind of hindered the pumping. The reality star was referring to her return to the hospital after she was discharged from the hospital with two hematomas after the birth of her children, which are closed wounds that pool blood that cannot drain, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Dorfman, who married Hart in Italy in May 2023, said she tried pumping “once or twice” but was unable to produce any milk.

“The weird thing is I never felt pain,” Dorfman added. “I didn’t have any swelling or those side effects that people talk about when they stop pumping. I just skipped that. I don’t know if it’s because my milk supply never came and wouldn’t come, or if I Was it a missed window of opportunity or, honestly, was it just plans that made their own plans but here we are.

Dorfman added that as Harper turns one month old, she is thriving. “I hope this story helps someone,” Dorfman said. “I don’t know why there is so much judgment and shame when it comes to breastfeeding or formula feeding or not doing one or the other. But this is my story. We’re going to stick with it.
