Aaron Rodgers says Jets’ season-ending game against Dolphins could be his last NFL game

Aaron Rodgers admitted Sunday’s game could be his last in the NFL.

Rodgers was asked by reporters on Wednesday whether the New York Jets’ season-ending game against the Miami Dolphins could be the last of his career.

“Yes, of course,” Rogers replied.

Rodgers hasn’t made any final decisions yet, but said he will make one before free agency begins in March. Rodgers signed a contract with the Jets for next season and is expected to have a salary cap hit of $23 million. However, the Jets will also be hiring a new head coach and general manager this offseason after Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas, who brought Rodgers to New York, were fired midseason.

“I’m just more resigned to the reality of the situation,” Rodgers admitted of betting on Sunday’s game. “I think things are going to change here if I [not] That’s part of the change, and then I just want to make sure everyone knows that I have nothing but gratitude for the time I spent here.

He added that he expects the new head coach and general manager to make a quick decision regarding his future with the team.

“I don’t think we’re going to get that far,” Rogers said. “There’s going to be a regime change here, at least at GM. Whatever they end up doing, I’m sure I’ll either get a call or have a conversation and go from there.”

Last year, Rodgers missed his entire first season with the Jets when he injured his Achilles in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. This year, the Jets are 4-12 despite Rodgers being healthy all season.

“I’m disappointed with myself and the whole team with the performance, but I’m really grateful for the opportunity. If I come back and feel good and they want to do it again, that would be great, but I’m not super excited about where we are. The situation was innocent.

This season has also taken a huge toll on Rodgers’ body. He became the most sacked quarterback in NFL history after he was sacked four times last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. He has been sacked 568 times in 247 career games, three more than Tom Brady, who has been sacked 565 times in his career. Russell Wilson also ranks first with 556 sacks.

The Jets quarterback has been sacked 37 times this season. He led the league in sacks twice during his career – both times while he was with the Green Bay Packers.

Still, Rodgers considered his last two years in New York the best years of his life.

“Honestly, I mean grateful. It’s been the best two years of my life,” Rogers said. “It was an adjustment in perspective that happened at some point in the rehab process last year. Just the excitement, falling in love with the game again, getting to know these people here, the great men and women who work here. It’s obviously, it’s A game that didn’t live up to expectations was about more than just relationships.
