Video: Royal Caribbean cruise ship crashed by yacht in Nassau

Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas cruise ship continues to experience bad luck.

In October, a passenger fell overboard while on a Taylor Swift-themed cruise in the Bahamas. Authorities quickly launched a search and rescue operation, but the 66-year-old woman was still not found.

Then, just days ago, on another Bahamas cruise ship departing from Miami, a pipe burst on the cabin deck. A TikTok video of the incident shared by a passenger showed the hallway on Foredeck 10 being flooded with water pouring from the ceiling, soaking the carpet below.

Now, the Oasis-class cruise ship has suffered another incident while sailing in the Bahamas.

Yacht collides with Nassau Allure of the Seas

On December 11, while the Allure of the Seas was docked in Nassau during a four-day Bahamas cruise, passengers witnessed a yacht named Aurora drift toward and collide with the ship’s port side.

In footage posted on YouTube and Facebook, a loud bang can be heard as the yacht hits the Allure of the Seas and scrapes along its port side. The yacht’s antenna can be seen falling from the roof when it came into contact with one of the cruise ship’s lifeboats, but the extent of the damage is unclear.

It is unclear whether anyone on board the yacht was injured in the incident or what caused the yacht to hit the Allure of the Seas.

Passengers who were in other parts of the ship at the time of the collision reported that they did not feel or hear the impact. Some became aware of the incident when the captain announced that the ship’s departure from Nassau might be delayed.

At 225,282 gross tons, the Allure of the Seas is one of the largest cruise ships in the world, so the collision likely did not cause any structural damage to the ship. Although passengers reported delays in the ship’s departure from Nassau, the Allure of the Seas was able to sail out of port and continue its voyage. The ship is scheduled to return to Miami on December 13.

Allure of the Seas is scheduled to enter dry dock in early 2025 for major renovations. The collision will likely add some more repairs to the ship’s dry-dock inventory, which includes more than $100 million worth of upgrades.

Royal Caribbean will launch the revamped Allure of the Seas in April 2025, departing from Barcelona, Spain, to kick off Europe’s “Allure Amplified” summer sailing season. The redesigned ship will feature various improvements, including a redesigned resort-style pool deck, new water slides and a spacious restaurant and bar.
