A man in a black Jeep is wanted after stalking a girl as she left school, California police said.

A man driving a black Jeep is wanted in Northern California after authorities say he followed a group of girls leaving school on Friday.

The local police department said that at about 4:30 pm on Friday, officers received a report that a suspicious vehicle was following children as they were leaving school in Santa Rosa.

Police said multiple callers reported seeing a white adult male driving a black Jeep near Lemur Street and Providence Court.

Witnesses said the driver of the suspect vehicle would drive slowly alongside the girls, sometimes backing up against the flow of traffic in order to follow the girls’ path again.

“The driver frequently used hand gestures such as waving to get the teens’ attention and at one point appeared to motion for a teen to get into the back seat of the vehicle,” police said. “The driver did not speak to any teens but appeared to be trying to get the teen’s attention by playing loudly a popular video usually associated with teenage girls. Music to seduce them.”

Police described the driver as a white male with light brown hair and beard, about 25 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 120 to 130 pounds.

Police said the vehicle, a black 2008 Jeep Cherokee four-door, had damage to the left rear side panel.

Police warned that the incident was a reminder for parents to talk to their children about safety and “stranger danger”.
