An armed security guard was in critical condition following a shooting inside a Target store in downtown Los Angeles on Monday night, according to Los Angeles police.
The guard was one of two people shot dead in the incident at the Figat7th mall store. A manhunt began Monday evening after the gunman fled the scene, officials said.
A gunman opened fire at the store in the 700 block of Figueroa Street around 8:55 p.m.
The condition of the second shooting victim is unknown at this time. Both victims were hospitalized.
According to police radio calls, the suspect was last seen fleeing the scene toward Eighth Street.
In 2022, a brutal stabbing occurred at a downtown Los Angeles Target when a homeless man attacked a 9-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman.
The attacker was shot and killed by a third-party security guard at the store. Target increased security at the location following the attack, ABC reported.
