Discover(4)Brown family recounts dramatic incident Meri Brownlegal divorce Kody Brown in the latest episode of sister wives – and Christine Brown claiming this is all Robin Brownidea.
“When Robin first came into the family, she started talking to us about other families where the first wife had divorced her husband so that he could legally marry the second wife and legally adopt the children,” 52 Kristen claimed on Sunday, December 29, in an episode of the TLC series.
Kristen claimed that in that moment, she thought, “That’s a plant,” and Robin, 46, hinted that she hoped Meri, 53, would do the same for her and her kids.
“She’s mentioned many times over the years that she put it there because she wanted something like this to happen,” Kristen further claimed, noting, “I don’t think Meri felt it was planted. I think Meri I think it was her own idea.
Meri legally married 55-year-old Cody in 1990, becoming his first wife. In 1993, Cody married in spirit and the plural family expanded their parenthood Janelle Brown. In 1994, Christine established a spiritual alliance with the patriarch.
When Robyn started dating Kody in 2010, she already had three children from a previous marriage. Four years later, Meri and Cody were legally divorced, and he married Robin and then adopted her children.
While Kristen claims this was Robin’s plan all along, she denies the accusations. “The idea that I planted an idea in Meri’s head is an absolute lie,” Robin said on Sunday’s show. “I never said that.”
She claimed, “I don’t even know of anyone who divorced his first wife so that the second wife could adopt the child. I had never heard of that before.
Elsewhere in the episode, Robin claimed, “I feel like I was gaslighted by some family members,” suggesting her actions were misunderstood.
Meanwhile, Jenelle admitted that she was wary of Meri divorcing Kody in 2014 because of the family dynamics at the time.
“I was really speechless at that time. [Meri] Telling us she was actually doing it because I thought Meri would never do it,” Janelle recalled. “That’s when I started to see Cody showing a little bit of favoritism towards Robin, and I was really concerned.”
However, Robyn insists that she never intended to legally marry Kody, especially after her past divorce. She said it was Meri’s idea, and Meri said she initiated the lawsuit, but she and Cody discussed it together.

“[Meri] She had this idea in her head to give me a legal marriage so Cody could adopt my child,” Robin told viewers, claiming, “I never even wanted to be legally married to Cody.
Robyn claimed that she was “so grateful” that she “won’t be legally married to Kody” because she “suffered so much trauma from a legal divorce in her last marriage.”
She added: “I feel very happy and content in my spiritual marriage. I don’t need anything else.
While Meri did take steps to get divorced in 2014, she doesn’t think it had such a big impact on her emotional state or her marriage to Kody.
“I do wonder if he had this plan in mind at the time, [saying]”If I could do that, the transition would be easy,” Meili told the camera, claiming that within “six months” of signing the document, Cody “wasn’t around anymore.”
She recalled feeling “so heartbroken” when she went to her attorney to sign the papers because she felt no “emotional support” from her other wives or Kody.
“Part of my logic was to say, ‘No, you still have the spiritual side of the marriage.’ Emotionally, I felt like I was moving away from the whole marriage,” Meri explained. “It’s so hard. I have to keep telling myself, ‘No, it’s not. We still have that spiritual marriage.
Cody admitted he didn’t think severing legal ties was a big deal. “As far as I’m concerned, we’re just sorting out the legal paperwork,” he said. “After the divorce, Meri and I left Robin and went to dinner together. I gave her a special ring and then we probably went home and had sex.
Meri and Cody remained emotionally coupled for nearly a decade, but after their legal breakup, their relationship never recovered. (After months of speculation, Meri confirmed her separation from Kody in January 2023. Meanwhile, Kristen and Janelle left Kody in 2021 and 2022, respectively.)
Looking back, Meri claims that their divorce and her decision to buy a bed and breakfast in Utah (where her mother lived until her death) was a way for Kody to distance himself from their marriage.
“I think it’s interesting that I actually live in this house because that was not my intention when I bought this house,” Meri said in the episode after permanently moving to Utah from Arizona said. “I know Cody feels that way too. I think the rest of the family does too.
She denied this was her “escape plan,” claiming, “I thought the escape plan was a legal divorce. Honestly, that was his escape plan.
