Brett, 38, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2023, but didn’t reveal his illness to fans until season 10 Southern Charmit debuted on Bravo in December 2024.
Madison and Brett, 34, ended in November 2022. The couple announced in February 2025 that Madison was pregnant with his second child, the first one being Brett. (Madison has shared his 12-year-old son Hudson with his ex. John Hughes)
Although Brett’s cancer diagnosis was revealed in Season 10, Madison specifically told US Weekly The couple had an “emotional year” that “dealed with their husbands” compared to their father’s death.
“There were some bumps on the road, but we were in the top spot,” she said at the time. “I didn’t want to give too much, but it was – an exciting year for us.”

December 2024
Madison reveals Brett’s cancer diagnosis in an episode on December 12 Southern Charm.
“Unfortunately, Brett was diagnosed with thyroid cancer late last year. “Around the wedding anniversary of our first anniversary, he confirmed he was sick in the fall of 2023,” she said. I was finally happy. This is really scary. ”
In this episode, the reality star explained that her husband had surgery to remove the “three centimeter nodules” but “has complications now.” “I don’t think we can catch up with AF, take a break,” she said at the time.
Madison also admitted how Brett’s illness affected her son. “I told Hudson [that] Brett is sick, but I don’t go into details about the effects of cancer on someone. “She said in regret. “I try not to let Hudson see me emotionally because I have to be strong with my family. ”
January 2025
Madison revealed more information about Brett’s diagnosis in a phone call to his mother on January 9 episode.
“So, he did some blood tests, but it wasn’t normal. They found a tumor in his kidney,” she said at the time, saying. “We don’t know what it is, but it still…I didn’t start crying or anything else. But if I lose him, I’ll die. I just don’t know. I don’t know what to do.” Madison’s father Ted Lecroydied of cancer in 2023.
“It’s definitely the worst year of my life,” she said in remorse. “Sure. Because my dad was diagnosed with cancer, but he didn’t last. I think that’s life. I just – hate it. I – hate it.”

March 2025
“Brett’s test is back, there’s no cancer,” Madison said in an episode on March 13. “It’s just an abnormal tissue. So now they’ll do the test and make sure everything is OK and the kidneys are doing well, but very comforting.”
“I feel like I must have held my breath so much that I don’t know how to breathe. I feel like once you’ve gone through something like this, you’ll always worry. But at this moment, I just need to be grateful, and now we can continue to be happy after life.”
Later in the episode, the reality star talked to her mom about a family and said, “I mean, I think literally, he said, “Everything is negative, and now we’re ready.” ”’
Madison talked further about The charm of the south after the showPer Bravo said: “I’m glad now we can finally say everything is fine now, we’re happy that he’s healthy.”
“I don’t think a lot of people know that my dad was diagnosed with cancer at the same time,” she explained. “But unfortunately, my dad passed by. So, for me, I’m like, I probably will never have these two people forever. That’s so scary, but at the same time, I thought, “Okay, don’t be frightened, because I have to be strong for him.” ”And he was trying to do the same for me.”
She said of Brett: “He was very private about what happened to him because he also saw how frustrated I was with my dad. He was like, “I can’t see you hurt so badly, especially “because he’s scared.”
